Okay, so I have settled in and got used to Maya now. Time to take what I've learnt and taught myself and step it up a notch. I'm going to be creating a fully animation ready Abrams battle tank, fully to scale and with the majority of its working parts (not going to go into extreme extreme extreme detail... But I will go pretty far in).
I've made a fair few models in the past, ranging from cannons to buildings to robotic suits... So I know how much work is involved... I am just going to get on with it. So, here are some screenshots from the first few parts. I'm not going to annotate them, they are what they are, if you can't work out what the parts are then it just adds to the mystery. So far I have made the 9 part tank tracks (including pins, pivots, pads etc) as well as the wheels and independent shock absorbers:
